Plain Talk for Parents
Plain Talk is a comprehensive, parent-child communication program that talks about building healthy relationships and improving family communication. It brings parents together to focus on the needs of children. Participants are given the opportunity to discuss with
other adults the challenges of parenting. The premise is quite simple. Parents are the best people to teach their children about sexuality and relationships and can be effective sex educators. Plain Talk was designed to help parents meet this need.
Plain Talk works to improve positive and honest communication between adults and youth, encourages youth to make healthy choices, and helps to reduce teen pregnancy and the spread of HIV/AIDs.
Activities include the use of cartoon video segments and scenario sheets which parents can take home to stimulate communication with their children. Topics of discussion include:
- Boundries
- Decision Making
- Sex in the Media
- Health Neiborhoods
- Communication Skills
